Ingredients

2 cans young green jackfruit in brine or water, drained and rinsed

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 medium onion, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

½ teaspoon ground cumin

½ teaspoon chili powder

1 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Salt and pepper to taste

12 slider buns (mini burger buns)

Optional toppings: sliced pickles, creamy coleslaw, or sliced jalapeños

Instructions

Prepare the Jackfruit: Using your hands or a fork, shred the drained and rinsed jackfruit pieces to create a pulled texture. Set the shredded jackfruit aside for later use.

Sauté Aromatics: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the finely chopped onion. Sauté for about 5 minutes, or until the onion becomes translucent and soft. Next, add the minced garlic, smoked paprika, ground cumin, and chili powder. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently until fragrant.

Cook the Jackfruit: Add the prepared shredded jackfruit to the skillet with the sautéed onions and spices. Stir thoroughly to ensure the jackfruit is well combined with the aromatics. Allow it to cook for 3-4 minutes, giving the jackfruit time to absorb the flavors.

Add BBQ Sauce: Pour in the BBQ sauce, stirring until the jackfruit is evenly coated. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as desired.

Prepare the Sliders: While the jackfruit is simmering, preheat a toaster or a skillet. Lightly toast the slider buns until they are golden brown and slightly crispy.

Assemble the Sliders: Take the bottom half of each toasted slider bun and spoon a generous portion of the BBQ jackfruit mixture on top. Add your choice of optional toppings—such as crunchy pickles, creamy coleslaw for added texture, or spicy sliced jalapeños. Finish by placing the top bun over the filling.

Serve: Present the mini sliders warm on a platter, with extra BBQ sauce on the side for dipping. For an added touch, garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro.
