Ingredients

1 large baguette or rustic loaf of bread

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened at room temperature

1 whole head of garlic

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped

1 tablespoon fresh basil, finely chopped

1 tablespoon fresh oregano, finely chopped

1 teaspoon sea salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for extra heat)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for a cheesy delight)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Garlic: Take the head of garlic and slice off the top to expose the individual cloves. Drizzle with a splash of olive oil and wrap it tightly in aluminum foil. Place it in the oven and roast for about 30-35 minutes, until the cloves are soft and have turned a light golden brown.

Create the Herb Butter: While the garlic is roasting, combine the softened butter, chopped parsley, basil, oregano, sea salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using) in a medium mixing bowl. Stir until all ingredients are well blended.

Incorporate the Roasted Garlic: Once the roasted garlic has cooled enough to handle, squeeze the soft cloves out of their skins into the herb butter mixture. Use a fork or spatula to blend the mixture until it becomes smooth and creamy.

Slice the Bread: Take your baguette or rustic bread and slice it in half lengthwise. If you prefer, make diagonal cuts for smaller pieces, which is perfect for serving.

Spread that Butter: Generously spread the flavorful herb garlic butter mixture over the cut sides of each bread half, ensuring that every nook and cranny is well-covered.

Add Cheese (Optional): If you’re looking for a bit of extra flavor, sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly on top of the buttered sides.

Wrap and Bake: Wrap the buttered bread halves securely in aluminum foil and place them on a baking sheet. Slide them into the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes.

Achieve a Crispy Finish: After 15 minutes, carefully unwrap the foil to expose the bread. Return it to the oven for an additional 5-7 minutes to allow the bread to develop a crispy, golden crust.

Serve: Once done, remove the bread from the oven and let it cool for just a moment. Slice into individual servings and enjoy warm for the best flavor and texture!
